When you bench you don’t want to think about “feeling a stretch” in your chest. Shift that mindset to feeling like your “loading” or “stretching” the back and the difference can be profound!
I find bodybuilders transitioning to powerlifting struggle with this the most. For them you want to isolate that chest with the bench. For lifters you want to put that eccentric right into your big stabilizers, the lats!
I’ve seen firsthand the impact this cueing has on a lifter. Shift your mindset and you’ll unlock something new. Tune in to the work of the lats when you bench. I always tell lifters, once you learn to unlock the power of benching with your lats, the entire movement changes for you!
