Ever see someone unrack heavy weight and never do anything with it? This is often times a planned event in training called a heavy hold
It serves to prep the lifter to handle that weight at the powerlifting meet
You'll load the bar with slightly over your 3rd attempt weight and unrack and hold for 10 seconds.
This will allow you to feel this type of weight in your hands and prepare the nervous system for what's to come.
For example, my client Jay last cycle was killing it in squats.
I planned for him to hit 450 at the meet but I prepared him with a 465 hold just in case
Lo and behold he is looking great at the meet so we went 460
This was not the first time he ever held this weight on his back before
With careful planned prep you can prepare for situations like these
Heavy Holds have their place.
