This is a great bench press corrective technique to get you to take the bar out of the rack with the lats. Taking the bar out with the lats vs the shoulders is what will set you up for success or failure. To get into a proper position and keep it you need to learn to utilize the lats in a pullover motion to set the bar up
Using a band forces you to set the bar up in this way. If you default to the shoulders you will just get stuck in the rack. Give this a try and you'll have a much more solid set up and will soon be benching bigger weights as a result!
