We live in a time where it's easier to make excuses or blame others when things go wrong. If you have a bad meet it can't be your fault can it? It's probably your coaches fault or whoever kept you up late last night, or maybe it was just shitty food you ate. If you ate something else you would have hit all your lifts. It sounds ridiculous but this is how it goes nowadays. I feel in the older generations if people made these excuses they'd feel downright embarrassed because they had some self respect back then
People aren't taught to take responsibility in todays world. If your kid's getting bad grades it must be the teachers fault. The parents should show up in the principles office and demand the teacher get fired, because it can't possibly be that their son or daughter isn't applying themselves. Complaining and demanding things get handed to you is the way it goes now
Let me tell you something you might not want to hear. If you set goals and fail to reach them that's solely on you and you alone. You've probably heard the expression make chicken salad out of chicken shit. There's plenty of examples out there of people that made something out of absolutely nothing. Coming from the worse of circumstances and finding themselves in the best of situations. You are responsible for reaching your goals, no one else
Anyone can do or be anything they want. If you want to bench 1000 lbs there is a way... there is no easy way but there is the hard way through tough work and sacrifices. It comes down to how bad do you want something. Are you willing to scrap for whatever it is you want? There have been lifters that would sleep in their car to train with the best around. Anything worth doing doesn't come easy, because as you all have heard the phrase, if it were easy everybody would do it
But for your own sake, stop making excuses when things don't go as planned. If you miss lifts at a meet it is not your coaches fault, it is your fault. You can train anywhere you want with whomever you want. If you had faith in the process the whole cycle then don't jump ship on the last day when you miss. No one forces you to do anything you don't want to do, this is America where we make choices for ourselves
If you're one of these people it is time to make a change right now. Generation after generation people are getting softer. The world as it is now is not the world we lived in years ago. My great grandpa taught my grandpa how to swim by taking him to a lake and throwing him in it. Today you might just end up in jail. Guess what though, he knows how to swim that's for sure. Toughen up
I'm not perfect myself, I catch myself making excuses more than I'd like and when I do I immediately regret it. There's nothing I hate more than listening to a persons laundry list of excuses so I try not to replicate that type of person. When you say you can't do something, it's not because you can't, it's because you don't want to make it happen bad enough. As Eric Thomas "The Hip Hop Preacher" says in his famous video, "you don't want it more than you want to breathe".
Speaking of that video, I'm sure most of you have seen it but it's worth ending this piece on. Watch the video below. Guarantee it will highlight how soft you have become and give you a good kick in the ass. We all need a good kick in the ass every now and then. Work for everything you have, and never put the blame anywhere else than on you. You control your destiny
